Department of Environmental Engineering

The graduate program of Environmental Engineering Department was started in 2001 and the PhD program started to accept students in 2013. The Department of Environmental Engineering includes two departments: Environmental Sciences and Environmental Technology. In addition to the laboratory, academic staff, electronic database subscription, and computer infrastructure, the existing infrastructure systems at Namık Kemal University Central Laboratory and the central library at the campus are also offered to the use of Environmental Engineering graduate programs and make a significant contribution.

Environmental Engineering is a discipline that includes many disciplines related to the use of natural resources and the creation of suitable environmental conditions for living things. There are many fields of science, biology, microbiology, marine sciences, agriculture, construction, machinery, geology engineering, etc., which deal with many problems ranging from drinking water supply to industrial wastewater treatment, watershed management plans to clean production technologies. The graduate programs cover basic issues such as potable water treatment, recycling and reuse of wastewater, air and soil pollution, in-plant process control and environmental biotechnology.

Because of decrease of water resources, the importance given to basin-based management in the world, the need to manage all kinds of industrial wastes, and the increasing importance given to the effective use of resources increase the need for program graduates.
