Department of Biology

The main goals of the Biology Graduate Program are to educate students who are well-equipped and contemporary students who have adopted the biological thought and comment, and are required by both the academic and industrial fields, and to train future researchers who have the qualities to serve the needs of our country, know about the importance of biological diversity, can effectively use existing methods in new research subjects in parallel with the latest scientific developments in various fields of biology, can transfer the information produced by publishing in journals or presenting in conferences and symposiums, and are respectful to the environment and nature. The Biology Graduate Program provides graduate education in Molecular Biology and Genetics, Public Health and Epidemiology, General Biology, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, and Bioinformatics and Mathematical Biology.

Our Graduate Program started a Master's degree program in the 2009-2010 academic year. On completing necessary legal formalities, the Ph.D. program was opened in the 2013-2014 academic year. The Graduate Program is carried out by two professors, six associate professors, two assistant professors, two doctoral research assistants, and one research assistant. There are currently 37 master and 11 Ph.D. students enrolled in these programs. The Graduate Program produced 25 master students since it was opened, and the first doctoral student graduated on 26.10.2018.

Our graduate students will be able to improve their scientific research skills and increase their knowledge in biology and sub-disciplines, gain the ability of accessing, evaluating and interpreting information, and do research in public and private sectors as well as research centers. These students will also be able to:

•          Follow up today's growing information,

•          Select a research topic within the bounds of the available facilities,

•          Identify and solve scientific problems,

•          Solve the problems they face,

•          Take responsibility in teamwork and leadership, and to take initiative when necessary,

•          Be in the service of the society in a competent and effective way as individuals who present the results of their studies in a scientific quality within the framework of ethical rules.
