Department of Agricultural Biotechnology
Biotechnology has a direct or indirect impact on every aspect of life such as agriculture and food industry, textile, paper to energy, space technology, and health. The rapid development of biotechnology also affects agriculture and it is clear that this technology will lead to the future of agriculture.
Considering these developments, in order to provide education in the field of modern biotechnology and its applications in agriculture, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology was founded on 07.05.2009 within the Faculty of Agriculture of Namık Kemal University. The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology has started graduate education (Master of Science) in 2014-2015 fall education year and will start the Ph.D. programme in the 2018-2019 spring semester.
In the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, studies are carried out in the fields of animal biotechnology, plant biotechnology, enzyme, and microbial biotechnology. There are a total of 7 laboratories such as Mammalian Cell Culture Laboratory; Honey Bee Behavior, Feeding, Genetics and Reproduction Laboratory; Plant, Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture Laboratory; Plant Stress Physiology Laboratory; Molecular and Genetics Laboratory; Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory; Student Application Laboratory.
